The Planning Department functions include reviewing plats for new subdivision and developments in Avery County, and providing oversight and recommendations for a number of county ordinances including the Subdivision Ordinance, the Sedimentation and Erosion Ordinance, the High Impact Ordinance, etc. The Planning Department prepares and enforces land use regulations including subdivision, erosion control, watershed, ordinances, and flood plain.
