COMMUNICATIONS
/ 911 SERVICE |
 |
The Avery County
Communications Center offers a fast, effective communications
link between the citizens of Avery County and emergency
responders. The center provides dispatch services for
multiple agencies, including fire, rescue, and law
enforcement. The department most often serves as the
first point of contact when someone calls for emergency
assistance.
9-1-1 consists
of a team of professionals who collect and disseminate
information needed during emergency situations as quickly
and efficiently as possible. This team is dedicated
to protecting life, property and environment. When
the telecommunicators at the 911 center answer your
call, they will ask you several questions to assist
them in dispatching the appropriate agency to help
you. It is very important to remain calm and clearly
answer all questions you are asked. DO NOT HANG UP.
Sometimes, you may have to stay on the line until help
arrives. If you live in a rural areas, you may be asked
for descriptions, intersections and/or landmarks to
expedite the response team. Always let the telecommunicator
know if you suspect or know that weapons are present.
