The Avery County Emergency
Management Office is dedicated to the protection of lives
and property throughout our county when an incident occurs.
Our goal is to plan for an emergency through preparation
and planning, respond to the actual event, initiate the recovery
phase post-event, and help mitigate the known problem areas
to prevent reoccurrence, if possible.
The Fire Marshal’s
Office is responsible for enforcing fire prevention codes,
performing safety inspections, reviewing plans for development,
performing fire investigations, and educating the public
with regards to prevention and preparedness. Since 1985,
it has been mandated that all structures, new and existing,
be periodically inspected, with the exception of one and
two family dwellings.
