Parks & Recreation
The Mission of the Avery County Parks and Recreation Department is to help improve the quality of life for our citizens by providing low cost leisure services through safe and attractive facilities. It is the Department’s goal to offer diversified active and passive recreational programs that meet the needs and requests of our population.
The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for planning and implementing youth and adult sports and activities, recreational programs for senior citizens, as well as maintaining athletic facilities and public parks, and the public swimming pool complex.
Youth athletic programs include football, basketball, and cheerleading.
Athletic programs for adults include adult league softball.
Athletic programs are open to those who reside in Avery County. Signup deadlines are established for each program. Details for registrations and forms are available through the County Recreation Office in Newland. Contact the Recreation Office directly for complete information on programs and registration deadlines.
Just as a reminder, we will be starting youth basketball signups for the 2016 season Monday, November 2nd. Please come by the recreation department and grab a form or click on the link at the top left hand corner of this page thats labeled 2015-2016 Youth Basketball Form. When you fill out the form, please return it to the recreation department before Friday, Decemeber 18th.
