The Mission of the Avery
County Parks and Recreation Department is to help improve the
quality of life for our citizens by providing low cost leisure
services through safe and attractive facilities. It is the Department’s
goal to offer diversified active and passive recreational programs
that meet the needs and requests of our population.
The Parks and Recreation
Department is responsible for planning and implementing youth
and adult sports and activities, recreational programs for senior
citizens, as well as maintaining athletic facilities and public
parks, and the public swimming pool complex.
Youth athletic programs
include football, basketball, baseball and soccer.
Athletic programs for adults
include adult league softball.
Athletic programs are open
to those who reside in Avery County. Signup deadlines are established
for each program. Details for registrations and forms are available
through the County Recreation Office in Newland. Contact the
Recreation Office directly for complete information on programs
and registration deadlines.
