The
Avery County Tax Administrator's Office is a multi-function
office, charged with the responsibility of maintaining
records on all real and personal property, for the
purpose of assessing, billing, and collecting ad valorem
taxes. The office operates with two divisions, Tax
Assessment and Tax Collections.

Tax Assessment
The Assessor’s office is responsible for the listing,
assessing and discovering of all real and personal taxable
property in Avery County.
The method by which appraisals are conducted is regulated
by the State of North Carolina and is intended to assure
the fair & equitable taxation of all the residents of
North Carolina. The specific guidelines for Assessing property
are described in subchapter II of Chapter 105 of the General
Statutes of North Carolina, also known as “The Machinery

The
Avery County Real Estate Page now allows
you to search all real property by Owner’s
Name, Parcel number or Physical Address. This
includes properties which have not been included
on our mapping website in the past, such as
Condominiums & Leaseholds. From those
searches you may now download a Property
Record Card.
In addition, there is a sales search tab
which allows you to create a sales report
that details
which properties have sold in your Neighborhood,
Township or County-wide.
Also
available is the New Tax Bill Search tab.
You may search tax bill up to ten years back
by
name, parcel number, account number, or bill
number. You may also narrow your search for
unpaid bills only. Motor vehicle bills may
also be search on this tab

The main function of the Avery County Tax Collection Office is collecting and
accounting for County real and personal property taxes. In addition, the Tax
Collection Office is responsible for collecting registered motor vehicle taxes
for Avery County.
The Tax Collection Office seeks to
achieve the highest possible tax collection rate while
serving the citizens of Avery County in an efficient, responsible,
and courteous manner.

Avery County tax bills
are now available for searches and online payments. Tax
data spans a ten
year period. You can now pay real estate tax bills, personal
property tax bills, and motor vehicle tax bills online
using credit card, debit card, and online check. Telephone
payments can be made by calling 877-768-4775.
Important Information
Online payments are not posted until
data is received from the payment administrator; usually
the next business day.
Online payments will not automatically resolve garnishments or motor vehicle
blocks caused by late payment. In these cases, contact Tax Collections at 828-733-8228.
